APAC occupied the undesirable spot of the most targeted region, with 46 per cent of DDoS attacks taking place, with Taiwan and the Philippines bearing the brunt.
FREMONT, CA: While record-breaking DDoS campaigns dominated the news in 2022, there was one less-covered locale that may have deserved more attention despite being the focal point of DDoS activity–APAC.

APAC had the unfavourable title of being the most targeted area in 2021, accounting for 46 per cent of DDoS attacks, with Taiwan and the Philippines suffering the brunt of these attacks. The situation remained challenging–China was still the third-most targeted nation, with Singapore coming in at number two.
While the attacks are happening more frequently, it isn't the only unsettling development. Recently, 1000 Tbp/s attack-launching botnets started to appear on the radar, and they noticed a continuous increase in assault duration. In 2022, DDoS perpetrators' toolkits have significantly expanded. And there will be a significant increase in Tbit/s attacks that endure an unusually long duration. Most enterprises are unlikely to be able to defend against such attacks on their own.
To establish a point of presence in Singapore in the Equinix SG1 data centre, StormWall collaborated with ID Cloud Host to recognise the significance of DDoS prevention in the Asia Pacific area. StormWall can now offer DDoS protection to businesses in the APAC region, including Australia and, of course, Singapore, thanks to the new facility, which is now operating.
A web application Firewall, TCP/UDP apps, and DDoS protection for websites are among the services provided. We were able to expand the StormWall network overall to the new location, and users from Australia and Southeast Asia now experience less latency while loading the website.
Choosing a Data Center
The Equinix SG1 data centre, which has access to one of the three GRX peering points worldwide, is where StormWall's servers are housed in Singapore. This data centre was selected because it is the most network-dense building in the area and provides extremely low latency connectivity. The servers are secured in painstakingly temperature-controlled rooms that are dispersed among numerous floors of a nine-story reinforced concrete structure, ensuring peak performance and energy effectiveness. All of this makes it possible for StormWall to offer nearly lag-free traffic filtering.
Additionally, StormWall has locations in the United States, Germany, Kazakhstan, China, and, most recently, Singapore. They collaborate with businesses from all around the world, such as ServerRun, Africell, and the Bank of China.
Triple Filter mechanism devices ensure 100 per cent mitigation of network, transport, and application layer assaults. With their approach, legitimate packets are not lost, as garbage traffic is intelligently blocked from reaching the server. Visitors to websites protected by StormWall will experience minimal or no delays, even during severe attacks.
In incident response, every second counts and defence can succeed or fail depending on technical assistance. For instance, StormWall's technical support staff is available around-the-clock and replies to tickets in under 15 minutes, even after hours or on weekends and holidays.
All of StormWall's points of presence have 1200 Gbit/s stateful and 2500 Gbit/s stateless bandwidth, which is more than adequate to survive botnet attacks with little to no effect on resources that are being secured. The solution will automatically identify the unwanted traffic when the system is under a DDoS attack, filter it, and only deliver genuine users to the server while preserving their IPs in an HTTP header.
The year 2022 set new records for DDoS. Attacks have increased in strength and frequency, and the tools available to threat actors have undergone significant change. The need for effective defence has increased along with the ability to execute extremely powerful DDoS attacks.
