This led to the development of the backup-as-a-service (BaaS) model, which enables businesses to store data in the cloud by having service providers offer and manage the required hardware, software, and support services.
A BaaS platform introduced new data security and backup capabilities for Amazon S3, which will assist businesses in backing up and protecting their AWS-specific data. This week at AWS re: Invent, AWS and Clumio will jointly demonstrate the new functionalities. Amazon S3 is becoming increasingly important to enterprises, and its resident data needs to be protected.
S3, an object storage service that lets AWS cloud users store data from any location, is a shared responsibility model and is not supported by AWS. In charge of backing up data, but they ensure platform availability and deal with problems like hardware failures.
The Growth of BaaS
Between 2022 and 2026, the global BaaS market is anticipated to expand by approximately USD 18 billion, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 33 per cent. Amazon provides built-in backup features that assist prevent inadvertent data deletion or overwriting. These include object locking, replication, and versioning, keeping track of many object versions in the same S3 bucket.
Organisations can only roll back S3 items to one of their most recent versions; they cannot restore S3 objects or an entire bucket to a specified period.
The technology uses S3 to handle four issues: preventing inadvertent deletions; recovering from ransomware and other cyber threats; adhering to compliance and SLA standards (ISO 2700X, HIPAA, SOC 2); and lowering AWS backup expenses storage spend or lack of visibility of costs across data services and apps.
The platform safeguards databases like Amazon RDS and DynamoDB, Amazon S3 data lakes, and Amazon EC2 and EBS application data architecture. Customers now receive continuous change tracking for Amazon S3 with granular protection, he said, and a Recovery Point Objective (RPO). RPO is the time during an interruption before the lost data surpasses the maximum permitted limits.
Additionally, the platform aims for zero recovery time to the extent of a disruption to normal operations and revenue loss. Early access to this feature is currently available. A data protection recommendation feature enables customers to receive advice on reducing data protection costs, consolidating backups across various services under a single air gap, and getting a complete picture of their data environment on AWS.
