Cyberattacks and data breaches are on the rise
In response to the staggering costs associated with data breaches, companies of all sizes have adopted a wide range of tools that can mitigate the threat of potential attacks.
Hackers and cybercriminals have targeted small businesses in a report published in 2021. Around 42 percent of businesses were affected by cyberattacks last year, according to the report. Furthermore, 69 percent of small business professionals expressed concern about future attacks.
Professionals may have to spend between $1,300 and $3,000 per full-time employee to set up a high-end or medium-tier cybersecurity system.
For a small business owner like yourself, these figures may mean making financial cutbacks or adjusting the budget to improve online digital security systems, even though percentage-wise, it means the business is committing 0.2 percent to 0.9 percent of its revenue to cybersecurity.
Cyberattack types
Business cyberattacks are becoming more severe and costing them more due to the exponential growth of online commerce and digital media.
The majority of cyberattacks are caused by human error, due to inadequate knowledge and training on cyber security and cybercrime, despite advancements in technology and the Internet of Things (IoT).
When it comes to cybersecurity, human error remains the biggest pitfall. However, there are other types of attacks and threats as well:
Malware attack
Viruses include worms, spyware, ransomware, and adware that infect a computer or operating system. Cyber attacks involving malware are among the most common.
Phishing attack
There is also a widespread threat from malicious links and emails, that can allow an attacker to gain access to confidential data and information if opened.
Password attacks
By cracking the password for a specific portal or account, hackers can gain access to a business's online platforms and other critical information. Strong and complex passwords should always be used, especially if multiple accounts are synced or connected to the same server.
Denial-of-Service Attack
An attack in which attackers flood a company's servers and networks to exhaust bandwidth is common among businesses and companies. It is common for a system to slow down or shut down completely once it becomes overwhelmed or exhausted, leaving the server and networks vulnerable.
