A trusted, legal identity is the basis to access rights and benefits such as education, voting, healthcare, financial services or welfare benefits. Yet today, over one billion people in the world still lack a form of legal ID altogether. To address such a challenge, governments must implement a robust and cost-effective infrastructure required for a fully functioning national ID system.

IDEMIA designed the IDway identity management system for that purpose. The company’s solution consists of several interoperable components (such as Civil Registry, ID Card Registry, Passport Registry, social welfare registry and more) working together as a unified system solution to manage the identities of a country’s population efficiently. Throughout life, the attributes collected on an individual in each registry are propagated to any other relevant registry, thus maintaining information frequently reliable and updated. Additionally, IDway enables governments to provide sustainable credentials allowing every individual to be recognized by the public and private services in person or online and ensure each citizen delivers a vital, unique legal ID from birth, valid throughout life.

Further, IDEMIA firmly believes that SRC as a framework could disrupt the digital commerce experience as we know it today. With close to 15,000 employees around the world, IDEMIA serves clients in 180 countries. A global leader in Augmented Identity, IDEMIA provides a trusted environment enabling citizens and consumers alike to perform their daily critical activities (such as pay, connect and travel) in the physical as well as digital space. By standing for Augmented Identity, an identity that ensures privacy and trust and guarantees secure, authenticated and verifiable transactions, IDEMIA has reinvented one of its greatest assets – the company’s identity – whether for individuals or objects, whenever and wherever security matters.

IDEMIA is the first and only supplier to provide Germany with three different health cards, all of which are based on the new generation of technology labelled generation 2.1. Integrating NFC capabilities, these smart cards will make health care communication more efficient and attractive for all users, both the medical profession and the patients, making IDEMIA play a significant role in supporting the digitalization of health care in Germany.

During the last nine years, IDEMIA has provided over 70 million eGK cards to more than 20 customers in the health sector – primarily insurance organizations. Similarly, IDEMIA is in the process of increasing the provision of HBA and SMCB cards – there are currently one million cards in circulation. Also, Bundesdruckerei – Germany’s national printing house – selected IDEMIA as the new smartcard technology provider with a four-year contract. In this agreement, IDEMIA will print full-size smartcards and provide the software components, and Bundesdruckerei will manage the personalization and issuing processes.
